Busy Weekend

Sunday afternoon, we decided to take the ferry into the City and take a cable car ride. It was Zachary's first boat ride, and as you can see, he enjoyed it, a lot. Since I am paranoid that someone will fall overboard, we didn't risk the outer decks and staked out a nice window spot.
Everytime we go to the City, Alex asks about riding a trolley, that was the impetus for this outing. A short walk from the ferry building, we hopped aboard a cable car and rode it to the end of the line. It was fairly crowded, so we were lucky to find a seat. At the end of the line though, we were able to snag an outside seat at the front of the car. The boys were able to see the big hills and watch the traffic. Our driver was kind enough to take a picture for us.
We had a little bit of time before the ferry back, so the boys enjoyed some general running around time, and mini baguettes.

On Monday, the boys invited me to join them at the science center. As we were walking in, Zachary was skipping and singing "Science Center. Science Center." They were both very excited to show me their favorite exhibits. Alex likes the space capsule and Zachary likes the astronauts. Since Phil had some extra hands, we were able to get the boys launched into space.

Rainy Zoo Day

Alex's school had a field trip to the zoo today. It poured, and most of the animals were wiser than us and stayed inside. No, it didn't just pour, there was a full blown thunderstorm. Phil was the only one who saw the lightning, but we all definitely heard the thunder! This is not typical Bay Area weather. Of course Wednesday and Friday were typical beautiful, sunny days. Most of our school friends decided to brave the weather, and at least make a mad dash through the zoo. Our little group caught a rare viewing of the lions, they are usually hidden among the trees, but we saw them resting by the pond, really close to the fence. Then they ran up the hill. Our second amazing sighting was of a chimpanzee coming out of his "cave", throwing a raincoat over his head and dashing over to another covered area. You could definitely see the resemblance to humans in that action! The boys each have a zoo key, that turns on information boxes near many of the animals. After listening to the spiel about the flamingos, everyone decided to act like flamingos!

Singer

Zachary, age 22 months here, but he has been singing the ABC's for a while. But, he loves to look at the pictures after you take them on the digital camera. He never actually finishes the song because he is so eager to "see it."

So helpful

Another visit

Gma and Grandpa unwittingly planned a visit in the middle of Phil's mini deployment. (They planned it first, and then he got sent to help with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.) It was nice for me to have some help, and the boys loved all of the extra attention. There were lots of walks to the park and Gma and Grandpa each took on some of my little fix-it-up chores!

School fun

Alex's school has been having Spirit Month and there have been a lot of fun activities.

A field trip to Crab Cove. Listening to the docent explain about which crabs we can and cannot pick up. I didn't see any crabs, so it wasn't really an issue for us.

Cinco de Mayo! It was also cowboy day.

Pajama day and Silly hair day.
