Grandparents Visit

Grandma and Grandpa Prather were able to visit us for the past week. We kept them busy with all of our classes and school days. But we still managed to get in 2 big adventures. The first was a day at the San Francisco Zoo. There were moments today that I wished I had the camera ready. Hopefully you have strong powers of visualization! As we were loading up the car to head to the city, Grandpa, who is 6 feet plus tall, decided that he would sit in the third row of our car. At 5'4, I cannot sit forward in this seat, but, what are you gonna do? So as he is trying to crawl over the back seat and figure out how to fit, Alex shouts out "Grandpa silly!" Everyone had to agree! Once we made it to the zoo, we were going to quickly change the boys' pants so they could be fresh for their adventure. Zachary had a big surprise for us. For our squeamish readers, let's just say Zachary went to the zoo wearing a diaper. Yes, first stop, the gift shop for some clothes for big Z. Here he is, as a peacock in his new outfit.

So, Grandpa continued to be silly at the zoo. Throughout the zoo, they had different plaques like the peacock above so you can become the animal. There was a set of eagle wings...Grandpa stood up to it and had wings coming out of his bottom. Why oh why didn't I have the camera?!

Of course we rode the train. And a tortoise. (not real)
Again, I have a post about the zoo, but no animal pictures. Believe me, we did see the animals. Both the grizzly bear and the silverback gorilla were right up against the glass. Here's how the boys stack up against the gorilla.

Our second adventure was to Fisherman's Wharf for lunch. This time, silly Grandma decided to get into the back row. As she said, once she gets in, she fits better than the rest of us. After lunch we strolled around Pier 39, only to end up on the carousel! Funny how that worked out (wink wink).

I think this is a great shot of Phil and Alex.

We left the silly grandparents downtown, as they wanted to take the ferry back later.
We hope Grandma and Grandpa had a fun visit. We sure did!

First day of school

It has been a busy week for Alex, first soccer and now preschool! Today was his official first day of school. We went to the open house last week to check it all out. Alex was very excited to go to school, after I signed him in, found his cubby and went to the class room, he was 100% on board. It was all I could do to get a high 5 before I left, he was so into playing, and I'm sure he didn't truly notice I left. When I went back to pick him up, the kids were all putting away the outside toys and then lining up. He ran over to me with the biggest smile on his face for a hug before going to sit quietly in line to wait his turn at the water fountain. Such listening skills when it isn't me doing the talking. On Wednesday morning, the first thing he said to me was "I want to go to school". (no school on Wednesday sadly) Such a big boy!
We already have lots of art work from school. This is my favorite.

KICK

Alex is taking a "soccer" class on Saturday mornings. I picked Saturday so that Phil could go with him and they could have some special time together. Since it was the first class, Zachary and I stayed to watch. It's too bad Zachary is too young for a class, he was ready to join in! I have to apologize for these pictures, the lighting was bad, and I didn't adjust for action.

Zachary did crash the class a bit! Racing across the field.

Running the obstacle course. Seamus and Alex.

I think Alex is really going to enjoy the class. There are lots of skills that he can practice at home and teach to Zachary.

Snake got us!

Alex and Zachary were playing in the other room last night while I was making dinner and Alex yelled out that I should come take a picture because the snake got them.

When I got there with the camera, he said "cheeeeeese". I have no idea where he got that, we typically don't do that. Of course, even with cheese, I couldn't get them both to smile at the same time.
Earlier in the day they worked at the chalkboard together:

Katy, Baby Calvin, Seamus and Fiona had come over to play too and Alex pulled out the dust buster to help me clean up afterward:

not that our friends spilled Cheerios all over, that happened later, just before we started to put toys away.

The video is ready!

Zachary walks and takes it to the hoop! A little bit of soccer is involved too. I think Alex sums it up best with his proclamation of "Zachy Walking!"

Yay! Zachary!

Just a quick little update. Zachary took a series of 4 steps tonight! 4 steps, fall into bear crawl, wait awhile and repeat.
Way to go Zachary!
