Whirlwind

Grandma and Grandpa Farrow came down for the weekend. I think they were here for about 48 hours. It was a quick trip! Even through his cold, Alex was able to have a fun time playing chase and showing G'ma & G'pa his toys and books. Zachary of course loved all the snuggles and extra attention. We didn't go or do much, just stayed close to home, playing. We did take a little walk down the street the check out the ducks and enjoy the fresh air.
We hope we get to see them again soon!

Milestones

Zachary laughed! Who knew sitting up was so funny? Now we have the giggles to go with the grins.
I also cleaned the newborn clothes out of his dresser. (sad) The NB pants still fit, but the onesies and jammies were at their limits. I'm going to push the size 0-3 for a bit longer, I'm not ready for him to be a big boy yet.
Alex's neurosurgeon called. The official word is that the film looked great and no new MRIs are on order! YAY!!

Colds

snuffled-headed Alex

We have been suffering through end of summer colds. Phil and I weren't hit too hard, but I did spend the day sleeping in preparation for a week of being home with sick kiddos. Alex has had it the worst, but I'm guessing that not knowing how to blow your nose or believing that sleep will make it better haven't helped. So far Zachary has managed to avoid the whole fiasco. Let's keep our fingers crossed on that one!

Our philosophy ~ A & Z

Just in case you were wondering how Alex and Zachary handle the daily trials of sharing our attention.

90%

Zachary had his 2 month check up today. As expected, he is a big boy! He weighed in at a whopping 13 pounds 7 ounces (90th percentile) and 23 1/2 inches. The boy likes to eat. He also had to get his first round of vaccinations. Unlike Alex who barely acknowledges the shots, Zachary cried. Loudly. Normally he doesn't cry, he just "talks" at an increased volume to get attention, so it was extra sad to hear him wailing. He had a rough day, but is sleeping it off now.

Hats

Alex loves hats. Especially ones he can put on by himself.

Not to be outdone, Zachary has these offerings.

Zachary does the Zoo

Auntie Nichole came to visit and we took her to the zoo for Zachary's first zoo trip. All of our favorite animals were there (good thing, I'd hate for the tarantula to escape). He may not have been awake for most of the outing, but Zachary did have his picture taken with some of the animals.

We had lots of fun with Auntie! It was a busy weekend, but there was still time to just hang out and play.

Fun times

We had such a fun week with Grandma and Grandpa. We're glad they were able to come out to the west coast to play. They sang and walked and shopped with the boys. And even braved a few meals out with the whole gang. Phil and I got to sneak out for a couple of quiet meals too!

Final (?) testing

Today was Alex's MRI. Hopefully his last. Alex got to wear a wonderful hospital bracelet, which he initially tried to take off, but forgot about after a while. In the recovery room, after waiting for him to wake up on his own for about 1/2 an hour, the nurse said we could talk to him to rouse him. I stroked his hair and said "Alex, are you ready to get up?" and his eyes sprung open. He reached up for Phil and said "halp" because he wanted to sit up. He then tried to rip the IV out. We went home with a list of things to watch for and cautions, the main one being to keep an eye on Alex for unsteadiness. You try to keep a 19 month old from running around the house! A quick trip to the highchair for lunch did the trick. All in all, Alex was a great patient and there were no complications with the test.
**We have preliminary results and everything is progressing as it should be. whew!

Trike

Alex has been practicing on his trike on the patio for a while, so we decided it was time to take it for a spin around the neighborhood. Having G'ma and G'pa Prather on hand to help corral the boys was an added bonus! He rode all the way to the park and enjoyed ringing the bell. Once we got to the park he spent the whole time pushing the trike all over, up and down the hills, across the baseball field. Zachary enjoyed the fresh air and looking up at the trees.
