Sweet Girl

"I sleep in a drawer."

Not really, but she seems to like the idea.

Sunol Hike

It was a boys' day out today and they packed up some snacks and headed to Sunol for a hike. Since it was just the boys, I don't have any commentary to accompany the pictures. I can say that from the pictures I didn't choose, it looks like it was another snack, hike, repeat outing. And it also looks like they had a lot of fun!

Kindergarten!

Today was Alex's first day of kindergarten! He has been very excited about starting at his new school.
New back pack loaded and ready to go!

Getting closer, we're right outside of the building.
Being greeted by the incredible Mrs. Wong. I'm so sorry the photo doesn't show her face.
Alex found his cubby and desk and is ready to work!
Welcoming bulletin board in the hallway.

Looks like the first day of kindergarten was a success!
Zachary was home from the hospital and listened in while Alex explained all about his homework binder.
At orientation night, Mrs. Wong asked the parents to write a note for our kindergartener.
Alex we are so proud of you and we know you are going to do great! Congratulations Buddy!

A Hospital Visit

Zachary spent Sunday - Wednesday at Children's Hospital. I'll give you the abridged, non-gory story.
Saturday morning Zachary complained of pain and being cold. He had a pretty high fever. We called the nurse hotline and they recommended medicine for the fever and to call back if it rose to 103. Sunday morning he seemed much better, so Phil kept a prior commitment. By mid-morning, his fever returned and went above 103. Ms. Karen was kind enough to come over and spend the day with Alex and Mady so I could take Zachary to the ER. Phil was out of cell range, but hurried to the hospital as soon as he could.
We spent 4 plus hours in the emergency room waiting for a doctor to see Zachary. During the wait, Zachary was listless and miserable. When Phil arrived and I left to go home to Alex and Mady, a doctor finally decided to admit Zachary to the hospital. Phil was able to stay with Zachary for the rest of his stay.
After a night of antibiotics, Zachary was in much better spirits.
Monday morning, after dropping Alex off at camp, Mady and I went to the hospital to visit our little patient. Even with his IV, he was back to his old joking self.
In fact, he wasn't in his room, but in the play room around the corner. He was doing some art projects with the wonderful volunteers. Someone even did a music circle.
Later in the day, they gave Zachary a sonogram and diagnosed him with a kidney infection.
Clearly Zachary learned a few skills while he was there, he's taking great care of this baby doll.
When Mady and I arrived on Wednesday morning, we were greeted with the great news that Zachary was ready to be discharged!
Heading home.

It was a long 4 days, but we are so grateful to have a wonderful children's hospital so close and friends who are so willing to help.

Coast Guard Day

For Coast Guard day we went to the celebration on Coast Guard Island.
Alex and Zachary enjoyed the jumpy houses,
 carnival games,
 rides,
 taking candy from robots,
 and the petting zoo.
Mady tagged along but didn't have many photo ops.
Zachary and Phil even played soccer for a while.
Happy birthday USCG!
